World Cup play today determines who advances out of Group F. Germany faces South Korea and Mexico is matched up against Sweden.
Mexico is at the top of the group with 6 points and Sweden and Germany each have 3 points. This means that Germany and Sweden both need wins to advance. In South Korea, Germany faces an opponent who hasn’t won a game and has only scored one goal this World Cup. However they do have the scoring prowess of Son Heung-Min who scored a lot of goals for the Tottenham Hotspurs last season.
The defending World Cup champions from Germany have a lot of talent but their 1-0 loss to Mexico put them in a bit of a hole. The South Korean team is scrappy so Germany will need to come out of the gate strong. Mexico high pressured them, contesting every single ball, and it was enough to throw Germany off their game. Chances are Germany will have a lot of possession and more shots on goal but the question is whether the strikers for Die Mannschaft (Werner, Müller, Gómez, Reus) will be able to put one in the net.
Today’s Dribble Up playlist is called Defending Champs in recognition of Germany’s attempt to return to a World Cup final and features the following drills:
- L Pulls
- Left Roll to Side Taps
- Right Roll to Side Taps
- Sole Flicks
- Right Foot Triangles
- Left Foot Triangles
- Right Foot V Taps
- Left Foot V Taps
- Triple Sole Roll
The World Cup Dribble Up foot skills contest for today is supported by Vahid Assadpour Soccer Training (VAST). Assadpour has been training youth players since 2010. His time as a professional player/captain with the Missouri Comets and his international experience with the Canadian National Futsal Team contribute to his ability to be able to motivate and train players at a high level.
The fact that Assadpour passes his love of the game and technical prowess onto his students is evident by the success they’ve had on the soccer field. He recently had several students earn on a spot on the Sporting Kansas City Academy team and also expanded to a 2nd facility to be able to handle the player demand for his training. The player & parent testimonials on the VAST site reflect the positive experience that Assadpour has on the players and on the youth soccer community. Thanks to Vahid for helping develop young players, hopefully some of whom can represent the US in the World Cup someday!
