Talk about going down to the wire! Both Croatia vs Denmark and Spain vs Russia took us to a full 90 minutes with a tie. Each game went down to a shootout with Russia topping Spain 4-3 in PKs and Croatia over Denmark 3-2 in their shootout.
Some fans had chosen Spain to win the whole World Cup but changed their pick after the Spanish coach, Julen Lopetegui, was replaced with Fernando Hierro right before the tournament. Hosts Russia overcame the talent filled roster of Spain to advance to the Round of 8.
Denmark wasn’t the first team that Croatia surprised. They started off by beating Nigeria, 2-0. The 3-0 win over Argentina was the biggest surprise at the time. The closest score line for Croatia was against Iceland, 1-0. Denmark gave the Vatreni the biggest run for their money in the tournament but Croatia was able to hang on and advance.

CoachUp is a site created for families that are looking for personal or group training for their soccer player. CoachUp covers more sports than just soccer but we’ve used it to find soccer trainers in our area.
You start by entering your zip code to find a coach around you. Then you enter the player’s age, gender, and whether you prefer a specific gender for the coach. Finally you can specify what position your kid plays and then the CoachUp website shows you a list of coaches that meet your criteria.
For each coach you can see the reviews from other players, their bio, their experience playing/coaching, and the different coaching options they offer. You start off with an initial list of suggested coaches but then you can tweak the distance away from you and the price per hour to expand the list. It’s a great tool for finding qualified trainers to help your kid improve in whatever part of their game needs work and hear what other families had to say about training with that coach. We like that it helps you find coaches but our favorite feature is that you get to read more about their experience and most importantly what other players/parents thought of that trainer. CoachUp also has publishes articles every week with training tips that cover a wide variety of topics so check it out even if you’re not looking for a trainer right now.
