Today we feature the World Cup game of Portugal vs Iran. While yesterday’s featured team of England pulled all their players from one league (English Premier league) Portugal is almost the opposite. The Portugese national team roster has players that currently compete in the Spanish, Italian, English, French, German, Chinese, Portugese, Turkish, and Russian football leagues.

The diverse mix of playing experience has melded well so far for Portugal. They started with an exciting 3-3 draw with neighborhing Spain that featured some very impressive goals. The went on to beat Morocco 1-0 and with a win today they’d finish group play a perfect 3-0.

The player we have to mention from the Portugese side is Cristiano Ronaldo. Having scored all of Portugal’s 4 goals so far he’s definitely living up to his billing as one of the top players in the world.

This is an important game for Iran who comes into the 3rd and final group match at 1-1. Iran started off with a 1-0 win over Morocco and then fell 0-1 to Spain. Currently in 3rd place with 3 points, a win over Portual would boost Iran into 2nd place and onto the next round.

Ronaldo’s 4 goals put him only 1 goal behind Harry Kane in the running for the Golden Boot. In honor of his scoring prowess today’s Dribble Up playlist is called Ronaldo and features the following drills:

  • Three Step
  • Sole Flicks
  • Roll Fakes
  • Scissors
  • Outside Scissors
  • Right Foot Elastico Triangles
  • Left Foot Elastico Triangles
  • Right L Pull to Sole Fake
  • Left L Pull to Sole Fake
  • Strong Rolls

The World Cup Dribble Up foot skills contest for today is supported by Sterling Sport Mindset. Dr Linda Sterling and her team at Sterling Sport Mindset work with youth athletes on the mental aspect of their game.

They help players understand the challenges they’re facing that can impact performance and work with them to build habits for overcoming those challenges.

With a doctorate in sport psychology, a master’s in counseling psychology, background as a psychology professor, and having played college sports herself Dr Sterling has a unique perspective what it means to experience mental blocks before, during, and after the game – and also how to overcome them.

In addition to individuals, Sterling Sport Mindset also works with teams in workshops for how to train your brain and also how to step up their mental game. To get started, Dr Sterling offers an initial private coaching session where she gets to know the athlete and their challenges free of charge.
